Many a time did we write about the great importance of social networks for the development and promotion of one's business. But the social network is no toy to play with. It should be treated properly and carefully. Newton's third law says that "for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force". Accordingly, the improper actions on your part can lead to the opposite effect, and not to what you expected.

The social network is a real tool for your business, and any business needs order, or at least understanding of what you are doing. This holds true for social networks. You should not cram the news line with everything. No matter what you may be selling: handmade cakes or nails, you still need the social network. But you should plan your activities in social networks as carefully as you plan your whole business.

Define Your Audience

The way you communicate with your followers very much depends on it. Bear in mind that the audience of your group in VKontakte will not be 100 per cent the same as the general portrait of your product consumer. Each social network has its own image, principles and rules. That is why different people choose different sources. Try to analyse the potentially useful audience in Twitter, Instagram, etc.. This will help you understand what content and message should be applied in each case.

Be Active

Life passes very quickly here, all being fixed and subject to disclosure. Therefore, even if you have no purpose to capture this world, allow yourself occasional cute abstract posts which can remind of the inspiring morning coffee in the office. This will add some credibility and sincerity to your online community. Besides, do not forget to regularly publish materials on a professional theme. Even if you think there is nothing to write about, find the subject. It can be either a favourable review of a customer, or the 10,000-th sold nail. The social network audience is interested in everything that shows that you are "alive and kicking". It is also essential to use only positive rhetoric. Here people like it. Therefore, demonstrate your subscribers sincere love for anything you do.

Use Feedback

Make it a rule to promptly answer all the questions users may ask you. Special attention should be paid to negative comments. Do not delete them on the spot: this action of yours may anger the audience and, consequently, cause a flurry of negative emotions. Be kind and friendly, comment on the policy of your company politely. But if a client has every reason to be angry, and is displeased with the quality of services or products, apologise and compensate for the damage as a nice bonus to his/her next order. But this is rather a matter of private correspondence (one never knows, people may start manipulating you, demanding bonuses and gifts for allegedly substandard service). In public discussion, preferably use more common phrases and vaguer wording.

Not Only Advertising!

A group with each post and betraying energetic appeal to a commercial transaction ("Buy my nails!") is unlikely to enjoy popularity. Subscribers can turn to "UNsubscribers". "Bread and circuses!" - This ancient truth is relevant to the present day. Entertain the audience, publish interesting informative posts indirectly related to your business. It may be some selection of amusing photos, historical facts or tips.
